Is blogging still relevant in 2021?
Perhaps you’ve been blogging for your brand for years or perhaps you’re thinking of starting a blog for your business today. Whatever the scenario, blogging has changed since its inception in the late 90s. Here’s what you need to know.
It used to be that bloggers were more storytellers. They took you with them on their adventures and everyday life. But that kind of blogging has really turned into influencing. Influencers still often tell their followers about their daily routines and tout products that they’re loving along the way. But as far as blogging, blogging has taken a bit of a turn and has become more of a resource for information.
Think about when you Google a recipe or product? What pops up in your search results? Very likely it’s a blog entry about the topic you’re searching for. Blogs that are specified in subject i.e. cooking, baking, running, swimming, fashion, beauty, tech, etc. are the more popular types of blogs today.
You might also be wondering if people still read blogs. Again, think of when you Google a subject. A blog entry might be included in the search results and direct you to that content. From there, you might decide to subscribe to the blog to continue getting their content direct to your inbox each week. So in short, yes, people still consume blogs.
When blogging, it’s important to keep the following blogging best practices in mind in order to have your blog still be relevant in 2021.
Blogging Best Practices
Stick to Your Expertise – Don’t lose focus and blog about something outside of your area of expertise. For us, that’s public relations and social media marketing. On our blog, you’ll find useful articles about those topics – nothing else.
Make Sure Your Site is User-Friendly – While you’re creating content, don’t forget it matters how it’s presented and how it looks. Make sure your readers stay on your blog and that other articles they may be interested in reading while they’re there are easy to find.
Generate Business – For your brand or business, the purpose of blogging is to create leads. Include calls to action. Get visitors to reach out to you or order from your site. Remember that blogging is a way for readers to “qualify” you and what you’re selling.
Diversify Your Content – Don’t just stick to words on a page. Include video, charts, pictures. The more eye-pleasing your content is the better!
The future of blogging is changing every day. But for now, keep these tips in mind and remember to evaluate your blog often!
