There’s been so much talk recently about a new social networking site called Clubhouse. The site, which raised $100 million, values at $1 billion. The company was launched in March 2020 by founders, Paul Davison, and former Google engineer, Rohan Seth.
So, what is Clubhouse?
Clubhouse is an invite-only (at the time of this entry) drop-in audio chat social networking site. According to Clubhouse, it is “where people around the world come together to talk, listen and learn from each other in real-
Once you’re on the site, you can start your own Clubhouse room, pick a conversation room topic, or you can jump into a room that already exists. If you want, you can go to the calendar and see what’s coming up. Currently, only 5,000 people can join per Clubhouse room.
Once you’ve joined you’ll notice that every room has a moderator. If you want to speak, you will need to tap the raise hand button to ask a question.
Interestingly, the audio files do not save at this time, so if you miss a session, you miss a session.
The beauty of this site is that you can pick what interests you. You don’t have to sit and watch your screen, you can listen to Clubhouse, just as you would a podcast.
Many Celebrities
There are tons of celebrities like Oprah, Ashton Kutcher, and Chris Rock who hold sessions and anyone can join in to listen.
24 Interests
I picked 24 things that interest me including: podcasts, storytelling, traveling, nutrition, fitness, marketing, and social media.
If you jump in a room, there could be hundreds of people, so don’t think that this is the place to shine.
But, if you want to get exposure, then you should create your own room. Pick a topic and start talking about it. Those who have similar interests should get a notification and can then join the conversation.
What types of sessions are there?
Just looking at the sessions, you’ve got topics like, “Smart Hustle Growth Tips with Ramon Ray,” to “Leveraging the Power of Clubhouse & Connect.” There are niche type groups as well like meditation or you can even listen to Elon Musk!
What’s my impression?
It’s a great place to stand out if you are the moderator of a room. It’s business-oriented and one day, I can see LinkedIn potentially buying this as a part of their platform. (This may not happen because the valuation is too high on Clubhouse.)
I find it similar to a podcast where you listen in to a conversation. If you want to ask questions you can and there are ways to build a community and potentially get new business.
You could become a thought-leader on Clubhouse, but there are many other sites that can do that for you as well.
I’m not sure yet if this will be the next Facebook, but it is worth checking out to see if it works for you.
